BRUDY GESTA is designed to supplement daily requirements of essential omega-3 fatty acids and the vitamins and minerals it contains, both during the preconception period and during pregnancy itself. In both situations, requirements for these nutrients are increased.

Brudy has developed and patented a unique and exclusive source of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA): Tridocosahexaenoína-AOX®. DHA is an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid involved in maintaining normal brain and eye function. This benefit is achieved with the daily intake of 250 mg DHA. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and DHA contribute to maintaining normal heart function. This benefit is achieved with the daily intake of 250 mg of DHA and EPA. Maternal DHA intake contributes to normal foetal eye and brain development. The beneficial effect for pregnant or breastfeeding women is achieved with the daily intake of 200 mg of DHA, in addition to the adult recommended daily amount of 250 mg of DHA.

Vitamin D contributes to the normal absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus. It also helps maintain levels of blood calcium in the normal range, and contributes to the normal maintenance of bones, teeth and muscle function.

Vitamins B6, B9 and B12 contribute to the normal metabolism of homocysteine, and to normal red blood cell formation and immune system function. They also help reduce tiredness and fatigue.

Vitamin B9 (folic acid) plays an important role in maternal tissue growth during pregnancy. Folic acid supplementation increases maternal folate status. Low maternal folate is a risk factor in the onset of neural tube defects in the developing foetus. In women of childbearing age, the beneficial effect is obtained with folic acid supplementation of 400 μg daily for at least one month before conception, and up to three months after.

Vitamin B12 contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system and to normal psychological function.

Together with iodine, it also contributes to normal energy metabolism. Iron contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells and haemoglobin, as well as to the normal transport of oxygen in the body. Iodine contributes to the normal production of thyroid hormones and normal thyroid function.

Zinc contributes to normal fertility and reproduction. Together with vitamins B9 and B12, it also plays an important role in the cell division process.

Because a certain percentage of the population is unable to take full advantage of B vitamins due to a genetically impaired methylation capacity, vitamin B9 (methylfolate) and vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin) are included in methylated form to facilitate its assimilation. Also, in order to maximise the bioavailability of vitamin B6, it is included as pyridoxal 5 phosphate.
